On Wednesday 20th September 2023, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced an increase to the grant available for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).
New £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme Grant
As of Monday 23rd October 2023, anyone who is eligible to upgrade their boiler with a heat pump can benefit from a £7,500 grant. This will be increased from the current £5,000 grant.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government scheme that offers grants to homeowners who want to upgrade from a gas or oil boiler, to a heat pump.

Heat pumps use electricity to transfer heat from the air, ground or water into your home, providing you with heating and hot water. Heat pumps can reduce your homes’ energy consumption by up to 70% and lower your carbon emissions by up to 90%.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme currently offers £5,000 for air source heat pumps – but as of Monday 23rd October 2023, the grant will increase to £7,500.
This means you can get £7,500 off cost of a heat pump installation. There are no strings attached and the money will never need to be repaid.

To be eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you need to own your own home or have permission from your landlord, have an existing gas or oil boiler that is at least seven years old, and have a suitable property for a heat pump installation.
